Paperbabe Stamps Challenge #51 - DT Inspiration

Today we have a new challenge for you on the Paperbabe Stamp Blog

This time it's a picture inspiration

As always there is a chance to bag yourself a prize from the lovely Kim Costello at Paperbabe

To join in the fun pop by the blog and link your project

I was inspired by the colours in the picture to create a rainbow coloured background using distress ink but then the quirkiness in me wanted to do something a little different so I used a polka dot stencil to add white ink and then distressed it by flicking water at the paper, giving a bleached effect.

I stamped and coloured a peony and leaves and sprayed the fibreboard word with black spray paint to finish off my card.

It's so colourfull and different and I love it.

The Products I used can be found on the Paperbabe Etsy store

I hope you'll join in with the challenge.

World Craft week day 2.....cross pollination

It's day 2 of World Craft Week today and I'm talking cross pollination,

Dont worry I'm not talking about gardening, I'm talking about mixing up your craft items, using things from different companies and even using a flower from one stamp set and a sentiment from another.

So many crafters get hung up about being brand loyal and only using one brand per project, but lets face it we are crafters and as such have a huge stash of crafty goodness from lots of companies.

Today I am going to share a couple of projects where I have used items from several companies.

First up is this super cute floral card. I stamped and cut the flowers using Altenew's Spring daisy stamp and die bundle, I then cut a piece of white card to 4.25" x 5.5", using a non branded stencil which I purchased from a well known auction site I applied some spun sugar Distress ink from Ranger ink.

I applied a thin strip of black card (from my scrap box) to the lower section of my card, I added my die cut Daisies suing some foam pads to add diemention and then stamped my sentiment from the Adore you stamp set from Altenew.

My second card is really cool, I love teal and black together, they just pop and make me feel happy. In a similar way to my first card I added some distress ink through a non branded stencil, this time I used the colour Peacock feathers.  I am making sure that the ink is more vibrant in the centre of the inked section and it fades out towards the edges.

I then die cut word Happy using Happy die from Altenew. I also used the Halftone happy stamp set to complete my sentiment. All that was left to do was add some thin washi tape (also from a well known auction site ) to the left edge of my card.

I have used unbranded stencils and washi tape which I brought on the internet form China, yes they took 2 weeks to get here but when they cost just 20% of a branded comparable product it means I get to save my money for stamps from my favourite companies.

I hope I have showed you that it's ok to mix it up and "cross pollinate" your products and companies, after all the craft police aren't going to come knocking on your door to tell you off, lol

I'll be back tomorrow with something totally different to share
Happy crafting.

Paperbabe Stamps challenge #47 - Design team Inspiration

Good Morning Crafty friends

Today we are starting a new challenge over on the Paperbabe Blog

It's the much loved "Anything goes" theme.

As always there is a chance to bag yourself a crafty prize from the Talented Kim Costello at Paperbabe Stamps.

Time for my Design Team Inspiration,

I thought as Christmas is fast approaching I would dig out my Christmas stamps and create something super cute.  I decided a round card would be a little different and created a scene using the Bottle brush tree stamps, Reindeer Fusion and  Sparkle bright stamp sets. My card blank had a scalloped border with punched holes in it so I threaded a red organza ribbon through and tied a bow.  I used distress Ink's for my background and added a faux stitched border for added interest.

To join in and enter the challenge pop by the Paperbabe stamps Blog and use the link up tool to show us your creations.

Srcap busting and finishing WIPs

Hi Guys, I'm still busy scrap busting and working my way through my WIPs, well my papercrafting WIPs, let's not mention the knitting, crochet and cross stitch ones that have gone up in the loft for the time being.

Today I have a couple of cards I made using some scraps

This card used some ribbon and a piece of card that was leftover from another project. I coloured it using Momento ink and a little water to create a water colour effect.

This card came about as I had tried out a stamp that came free with a magazine and then put it to one side and forgot about it. I found it this week while tidying up my desk and thought I should use it to create a a small 5x5 card. The bakers twine was an off cut and the sentiment was also from when I tested out a new stamp set.

I am determined to work my way through all those bits and bobs and make pretty things with them.

I'll be back on Friday with a new Challenge from Paperbabe Stamps.

Stamping fun

Yay, it's bank holiday weekend and half term. That means lots of family time and more crafting fun.

I wanted to share some cards I've made recently from all those bits you try out and put to oneside.

I love stamping and trying out new techniques to create backgrounds, so here's a few

I used a messy watercolour effect for this card, using distress ink and water.

This time I splogged distress ink onto a craft mat, sprayed a little water and layed the card on top, when dry I added the stamped images.

I coloured the butterflies using distress ink applied with a wet brush, quick and simple.

This card was created in the same way as the one above.

I blended distress ink onto white card and sprayed with water, once dry I flick white water colour on to the background and then stamped the gorjuss girl.

This was a really fun card to make, I blended some alcohol ink on to some glossy cardstock using blending solution, I then added some droplets of alcohol ink on top. Once dry I added the sentiment and flourish using black Stazon Ink.

I hope you like today's cards and have fun creating some of your own.

Playing with Altenew stamps and Inks from my stash

So today I picked up a copy of "Simply cards and Papercraft" magazine as it had a freebie of Atenew goodies on the front cover.

I have been wanting to get my hands on Altenew stamps for a while but you know how it is when money is tight you have to make choices and my longing had to wait.  In the pack there are 9 stamps and 2 cutting dies.

I couldn't wait to get them home and start stamping, although my fun was delayed as I had to take my daughter to the Dr to get her dodgy knees checked.............

Altenew make and sell their own Crisp Dye Inks but as you guessed I don't have any of these yet so I had a play with the ones I own, mainly distress and Memento dew drop inks.

My experiment

I started with the Memento Inks, I stamped each layer of the stamps in the same colour in the hope it would build up depth and show the pattern of the stamps. Here is my results

Angel Pink

New Sprout

Cantaloupe

Paris Dusk

Next I tried the same technique with a distress ink pad, my results as my kids would say was an "Epic Fail"

Antique Linen

Then I thought how about using multiple shades of distress ink, here is how that worked out;

Antique Linen, Vintage Photo and Ground Espresso

It gives an almost pop art effect, I think there may be times where this effect could be handy but not for what I want at the moment.

The verdict; I will be buying some Altenew ink when they are in stock and I have some money.

Craftwork Cards Fabulous Fashionista

It's Monday and after a busy few days I have had the chance to sit and create for my own pleasure.

I took Craftwork cards newest release, some basic supplies; Sequins, washi tape, twine, distress ink and a few black pearls and this is what I created in a couple of hours.

This first card is a little 5"x 5" everything apart from the twine came in the kit.

This I think is my favorite card a strip of paper which was an off cut from another cards, some sequins, washi tape and a topper, quick, easy and chic.

This card was a little more involved, the lady on the front was part of a 8" x 8" paper, I rough cut it, glued it on to some card and then fussy cut. I added some of the stripe paper to the card blank and cut a circle aperture, I then glued the circle back inside the card. Next I added the Lady to the front and placed a couple of sentiments. I added the pink Candi around the aperture for a hit of colour.

For this card I used one of the Perfume bottle toppers, I added some colour by water colouring with a distress ink pad. For the background I used distress ink again and added some little bubble/circles here and there. I stamped "Birthday Wishes" in Versafine ink, added a piece of the striped paper and edged the background by running a fine tip black pen around and adding a few crosses to look like stitches.

This card combined a bit of mat and layering with some dies cutting, everything come from the kit

I water coloured one of the shoe stoppers with Distress ink, used a couple of off cuts of paper, 3 candi and a sentiment which I pinked the edges of.

This was the first card I made with the kit, I think the foiling and artwork are so pretty that I didn't want to overpower them by doing to much. I love the pink and gold together.

This card combines washi tape, black pearls and papers from the kit. Simple but elegant.

I think this kit may be my all time favorite by Craftwork Cards. Tx

Paperbabe Stamps Challenge #30

Hi Guys, thanks for joining me this morning, I thought I'd share my card I made for the Paperbabe Stamps challenge #30.

The theme of this challenge is "Sketch"

Why not have a go at creating something to enter into the challenge yourself, heres what you need to do;
Use the sketch in any creative way that you want, flip it, turn it be inspired by it. The flowers can represent any image and "paperbabe stamps" any sentiment. use at least one paperbabe stamps product in your creations and HAVE FUN!

to enter visit http://paperbabestamps.blogspot.co.uk/ and upload a link to your project and you could be winning a prize!!!

Using the layout sketch I created the card below

here's how I did it;

I created a background using Distress inks in Pumice stone and Scattered straw, I then spritzed the Chevron stencil with water, gently shook off the excess and then layed it on top of the inked background. I let it for about 30 seconds then lifted it and dabbed with kitchen paper.

I used a small piece of card to stamp my sentiment on and the used the same inks to create a background.

I stamped 5 flowers from the Folk fabrique set onto card, fussy cut them and used the Distress inks to water colour the centers. I placed the sentiment and flowers on to the background and added 5 black adhesive gems.

I really hope you liked my card.

Tutorial 15 - Spread Your wings

Thank you for joining me today, I have a wonderful project to share with you.

I created this gorgeous mixed media project using a few techniques that I hope you will try out yourself.

I started by laying masking tape in different directions over some Kraft card

I then sponged on some Gesso to cover the whole piece, It took 3 coats to give a good coverage, you can leave it to dry naturally or use your heat tool

I used my heat tool on the last layer, in a few areas I held the tool closer the the surface as this created little bubbles in the paint which give a very nice distressed texture.

Next I used a piece of sequin waste as a stencil and a make up sponge to apply some shimmer mists in black

I then added some Emerald green through another stencil

this time I spritzed a purple over a stencil to give more depth to the project

I used all the excess ink from the make up sponges to colour a MDF butterfly, I love the grunge look

Using the same colours I spritzed a piece of card and then used my fingers to flick some water over the surface, this moves the ink around, once I dabbed the surface with kitchen paper the areas the water had been appeared lighter, I like to call this faux bleaching....

I wanted to add a sentiment to my project using the spritzed background so I tore strips of the card which reveled white edges, I then inked them with some distress ink and stamped them with my chosen words.

I also die cut some butterflies out of the card too

I placed the stenciled back ground into a frame (minus the glass) and now it's time to construct the master piece

I added the MDF butterfly and sentiment using hi tack glue

and the placed the little die cut butterflies to make it look as if they were flying across the page

I added 5 lilac sequins to highlight and add sparkle around the sentiment, I always use odd numbers of embellishments as it's more pleasing to the eye.

Here are some close ups of the finished project

If you'd like to try making a mixed media project like this I would recommend visiting www.colourarte.com/ as the have some awesome products. One of my favorites is Twinkling H20s as they are so versatile.

The ColourArte Blog is full of inspiration, videos and tutorials, so why not make yourself a drink and sit back and have a look and maybe you can share a project with us soon.

Until next time; Happy crafting Tx
