Tutorial 14- Distress Inks tie-dye watercolor effect (Part 1)

Thank you for joining me for another Distress Ink Tutorial, Today I am going to show you another way to use both distress ink and Craftwork Cards overlays, this time the result is a watercolour tie-dye effect.

As in my last tutorial my kit list is very much the same, 

Craftwork cards Card Overlays

Mini Distress Inks kit 1

Ink blending tool

water in a spritzer

blending mat

masking tape

This time I am using one of the square overlays which has chevron die cut elements to it

After removing the overlay from it's carrier sheet I use masking tape to attach the it to my craft mat

I then use the distress ink pads to stamp a checked pattern on to the mat, I leave some area clear of ink for added interest

Next I spritz/spray some water onto the ink

I added some masking tape to the overlay to keep all the piece together and then layed it face down into the ink and gently patted it so that it picked up some ink

I carefully picked it up and turned it over to reveal this amazing effect, It remind me of a t-shirt I once had!  This now needs to dry, but I was left with some ink on my blending mat so could make a little bonus project which I will pop on the blog too.

Tutorial 13 - Distress Inks and Card Overlays (Part 2)

Thank  you for joining me for part 2 of my  Distress Inks and Card Overlays tutorial. I will be showing you what I have created with the inked overlay I made in the previous post.

This is how we left the tutorial in the last blog posting and here i how things progressed.

I cut some Balloons from the Celebrations papers and glued them into place with a little twine to look like the string on a balloon and added a sentiment from the Celebrations kit from Craftwork cards.

And here it is, the finished card, I think this would make a lovely card for a childs birthday.

Tutorial 13 - Distress Inks and Card Overlays (Part 1)

Good morning lovely crafters, I'm sharing a tutorial featuring distress inks and Craftwork cards overlays today,  I can't take full credit as Julie Hickey of Craftwork Cards demonstrated a very similar technique on Create and Craft TV but I have added an extra step to give a slightly different finish.  

For this tutorial I will be using;

Ink blending tool

water in a spritzer

blending mat

mini star stamps

stamp block

masking tape

I start by popping a card overlay out of it's carrier sheet, they are kiss cut so have some little pips that I cut back with a craft knife or sand with nail file. I apply masking tape to the reversse side of the overlay to keep all piece together. ***TOP TIP; de-tack the masking tape by placing it on your clothes and removing a couple of times, this means that it wont tear or pull at your paper and card!***

I picked out the yellow ink (mustard seed) and dabbed it on my blending mat a couple of times

Using the blending tool in a circular motion I apply ink to 3 areas of the overlay, if you go over the same area again it will intensify the colour.

I repeated this process with the pink ink - (Picked Raspberry)

and now the blue (peacock feathers)

and lastly the orange (spiced marmalade)

This is where the magic happen, I sprit/spary with water, this reacts with the ink and moves it and gives a mottled softer finish 

This is how it looks once dry, almost a water colour image...

Next I am adding stars to the overlay

I use the same colour ink for the star as the area I am stamping, blue on blue, pink on pink etc

I then pop out the die cut pieces, I now have an overlay to use and some die cut elements which can also be used on a project.

Here is my creation

I created my mixed media piece using the Mini face profile stamp set, Mixed media torso and head template, Long and fringe Mixed media hair template and the Mixed media winter fairy wing template. The background was created with water colour paints and the main image used distress ink, acrylic paint and water colour pencils.

Crafting with Serenity

Sorry it's been so long since my last post, I've been busy decorating and crafting had to take a back seat but I'm back and have so many things to share that I am going to have to spread them over several blog posts.

I purchased the Serenity kit from Craftwork Cards a while back and have been waiting for spare time to craft, here's what I've been making.

First up is a simple yet elegant card, I love how understated it is.

Next up is a card that I made with left over pieces of paper, I love to make banners/pennants with scraps.

This card has a frame from the Butterfly kisses kit but everything else is from the Serenity kit. I love the blue and a slight touch of beige/brown together.

I sat looking at this piece of paper for a while wondering what to make and had a bit of a brainwave

I cut a 4inch strip of and then cut it into 8 2x2" squares perfect for a paper folded flower, I then cut into the chevrons creating 3 strips and removing some of the little triangle bits that can be used as photo corners

This is the card that uses the 8 square, I will put together a tutorial on how to make the flower soon, I promise

This card uses 2 of the chevron strips

The last card makes use of the final piece of chevron paper

I love these cards and will be adding them to my ever growing card collection, I hope you'll stop by again soon T x

Here is my creation for the challenge;

I created an Alcohol ink background for my card and used the Iris from the Female Face stamp set to create the center of the flowers, adding a stem and leaves using elements from the Folk fabrique stamp set. She then stamped the Art Quote stamp onto card and tore it into sections to add dimension and interest.
